Laval (Sainte-Rose)

Sainte-Rose is a neighborhood located north of the City of Laval, Quebec. The former city of Sainte-Rose became part of the City of Laval, when it was founded in 1965. It is the fourth largest district in terms of its number of inhabitants after Chomedey, Fabreville and Laval-des-Rapides. At one time the territory of the village was merged with that of the parish named in honor of Saint Rose of Lima.

There is, to the north, Vieux Sainte-Rose, crossed by Boulevard Sainte-Rose, and, to the south, the Champenois sectors to the west and Champfleury to the east, separated by Boulevard Curé-Labelle.

Sainte-Rose is part of the first generation of villages to develop on the territory of Île Jésus. The second parish on the island, it was founded at the same time as that of Saint-Vincent-de-Paul, because of the distance from the church of Saint-François-de-Sales for the residents of Sainte-Rose. It was in 1740 that Gilles Hocquart, intendant of New France, decreed the erection of these two parishes. The episcopal see being vacant, religious services were provided in the presbytery built in 1741, pending the construction of the first church in 1746. As for the canonical erection, it would not come until a century later.
