L'Assomption is a municipality du Québec located in the municipality of County Regional from L'Assomption, in Lanaudière. Its name, which refers to l'Assomption de Marie, comes from the L'Assomption river on the edge of which it is located.
It is located northeast of Montreal, on the banks of the L'Assomption River. The central part of the city is on a peninsula traced by the meanders of the river.
The city is crossed by highway 40 and by roads 339, 341, 343 and 344. It is also served by Canadian National trains as well as by Quebec Railways -Gatineau.
